Sandra (Sandy) L. Van Valkenburg, age 80, of Coopersville, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020, surrounded by her family and under the care of Spectrum Health Hospice.

 

She was born on December 22, 1939 in Dixon, IL, to John & Pauline (Sutton) Herron.

 

Sandy married Gary E. Van Valkenburg on October 26, 1955 in Grand Rapids.  He preceded her in death on August 1, 2010.

 

She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting Grand Haven, coloring, crocheting, playing bingo and slot machines.

 

Survivors include her sister, Barb Herron; children, Paula (Paul) Wellman, Susan (Mark) Potter, Denise (Rick) Roels, Scott (Ellie) Van Valkenburg, Todd (Kelly) Van Valkenburg, and Chris (Stacey) Van Valkenburg;  11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; infant son, Gary;, son, John Van Valkenburg; and twin brother, John (Sonny) Herron

 

Friends may join the family to celebrate Sandy’s life on Saturday, February 29, 2020 anytime between 1 PM and 4 PM at the Coopersville Reformed Church activity center 423 West Randall, Coopersville MI

 

Donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice

    Sandy, oh the fun we had those many years ago, playing jeopardy with family on Saturday nights. I’m so glad we reconnected recently. Rest in peace, dear one. ⚘

    Sandy was a childhood neighbor the mother of my friends and one of my mom’s best friends. Had some great times , long talks. She played bingo with my mom. Hope they enjoying seeing each other again in heaven. Hope to join them some day. Love the family, Deb
