Michael Thomas Markus, age 59, of Portage, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 24, 2023.  He was born January 9, 1964, in Kalamazoo, MI, to the late Harold and Jean (Bourgeois) Markus Jr.

Michael graduated from Otsego High School with the class of 1983.  He worked over 33 years for the City of Portage as a groundskeeper in the Parks and Recreation department.  Mike married Candy Lynn Bilgum on November 13, 2015.  He loved to being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and enjoyed watching races.

Survivors include his wife of 8 years, Candy; daughter, Hailey Markus; and five siblings: Cathy (Mike) Dorko, Steve (Cindy) Markus, Jacqualyn (Brian) Kahlmorgan, Margie (Tom) Vandermeer, and Patricia Shattuck.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

The family would appreciate if you could donate in Mike’s honor and memory to a mental health charity or alcohol abuse initiative of your choosing.

    Mike I appreciate every time we talked about JESUS, For those who don’t know JESUS CHRIST IS THE SAVIOR AND HEALER FOR those who except him so what ever mistake if you have breath to ask JESUS to save you he WITH!
