Michael Hoag, age 66, an Alto native, unexpectedly passed and joined as an angel in Heaven Monday, September 14, 2020.   Mike celebrated his 66th birthday in June. Early in his career, Mike joined the US Navy, where he spent years aboard various ships at sea, and contributed to the team aboard the ships with his love for cooking. After his time in the Navy, he spent time in the Navy reserves, where his niece fondly remembers going to the various Navy family functions once Mike moved back to Michigan from Virginia in the 90’s. Outside of the Navy, Mike enjoyed time with friends and family, and using his cooking skills for various family weddings for his nephews, and grill/cookouts with family & close group of friends he bonded with through his local group programs. Mike is preceded in death following his dear sisters Debbie Hoag and Denise Hoag (Dykhuis), his father Wayne Hoag, mother Avis Hoag, and several extended family members. Mike has several family and friends who will miss him dearly, including siblings Melinda Hoag (Spence) of Oklahoma, Kevin Hoag of Alto, Terrie Hoag of Lowell, Stuart Hoag of Ohio. Also, extended nieces and nephews Amanda, David & Cheyenne Kerman of Ada, Kristin, Kevin, Allie & Dylan Miller (Potter) of Lake Odessa, Jarod Hoag of Ohio, Cody, Angie, Hunter & Griffon Dykhuis of Lowell, and Justin, Mandy, Liberty, Riley & Dakota Dykhuis of Edmore. Mike had a humor with friends & family that will be missed dearly, as he was always compassionate towards family and friends alike. There will be a memorial service the week of September 28th for immediate family only due to current pandemic situation and honoring those with underlying conditions in the family. In addition, there will be a burial service in the Fort Custer National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his fellow friends and comrades. Any memorial donations can be made respective of Michael Hoag to the National Diabetes Foundation.
