Mary Catherine (Moulton) Ecker, age 94, of Middleville, Michigan, passed away in the
arms of her Lord and Savior, surrounded by the love of her family, on December 7,
2021. She was born April 7, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI, to the late James and Mildred
Martin. She was adopted by the late Wayne and Ella (Ehrman) Moulton. Mary married
Eugene Edward Ecker on August 10, 1946. Together they raised their three daughters
in the Middleville area and celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage before Gene passed
away on June 9, 1996. Mary and Gene were long-time, active members of First Baptist
Church of Middleville.
Mary was a member of Mensa and attended Ferris College to study pharmacy; she was
also involved in the Waves during WWII. Mary worked for the Thornapple Kellogg
School District for over 23 years as a librarian.
Mary loved to knit and read; she taught kitting at the community 4H and she would often
be found reading while accomplishing other tasks. She enjoyed playing golf with many
of her friends and was still golfing into her 80’s. She was a fierce competitor when
playing games and loved the challenge of puzzles. Mary traveled to many places all
over the world and camped for many years with family and friends. Everyone loved her
laughter and smile.
At the age of 80, Mary discovered that she had seven biological siblings that were born
after she was adopted. Mary was able to spend time with her sisters in the last few
years of her life.
Survivors include her three daughters: Kristen Freds, Linda Harmsen, and Gayle
(Timothy) Dayringer; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and eight great great
grandchildren, and her sisters, Carol Axe (Texas) and Betty Martin (Kansas) and many
nieces and nephews.
Mary was proceeded in death by her husband, Gene; her parents and five siblings.
Mary’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Carveth Village of
Middleville and Kindred Hospice for their care and compassion throughout this difficult

Mary was a wonderful lady. She had a sense of humor and was fun to be around, even if it was only for a few years. I miss her and am looking forward to see her again in heaven.
