Growing up, Lyn Parks and I were fellow Creston High School (CHS) Polar Bears. We both lived across the street from Briggs Park and spent years honing the athletic skills we thought we had under the tutelage of Jimmy Coleman, Don Black, Joe McGee, and others. He was a great baseball player and true competitor. We spent years as teammates playing for the “Giants” and coach, Clank Stoppels and, after high school, “Hines & Sons,” and coach, Bob Fatum. During those years, we competed both with and against each other, and grew to respect one another’s abilities and friendship. As life goes, my family and I moved from the Grand Rapids area and we lost contact, except for an occasional Polar Bear luncheon (Thanks, Jim Dole!). When I think of Lyn, I remember baseball, the Polar Bears, Briggs Park, Valley Field, good times and good friends. Peace be with you, Ole Buddy! I’ll see you on the other side!
