Kay M. Bentley, age 75, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020 at her home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Floyd Franklin & Eleanor Marie (Simmons) DeShane, was born on September 17, 1944 in Grand Rapids.
Kay enjoyed numerous craft activities some of which include quilting, sewing, cross stitch, (which she loved teaching her grandchildren, and great grandchildren). She enjoyed playing cards on weekends with her siblings, cousins and aunts; also playing cards with her church sisters of the Ladies Aide Society. Kay was a long-time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Belding, acting as treasurer for numerous years, was a lay reader and wrote a monthly newsletter from her fictitious church mouse, Winnie. Kay retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections where she worked as a registered nurse.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Simmons; and a grandson, David John Moose.
Surviving are her children, Karilyn & Aaron Sanders of Lansing, Wayne Moose of Zion, Pennsylvania, Laura & Jason Fish of Ionia, and Michelle Kelley of Ionia. Kay also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Hall of Marquette; three brothers, Raymond & Nancy Wolbers of Grand Rapids, Donald & Eleanor DeShane of Jenison, and Larry & Carole DeShane of Grand Rapids; a sister-in-law, Karen Simmons of Spring Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 422 W. High Street, Belding, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
