John Charles Brooks, age 64, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 8, 2023.  He was born January 1, 1959, in Grand Rapids, to Kenneth and Marjorie (Southard) Brooks.  He graduated from Comstock Park High School with the class of 1977.

After graduation he was employed for a short time at Irwin Seating Co. and Amway,  but his real passion, the job he held for the rest of  his working career, was truck driving. He drove cross country and his last years were locally.

John spent a lot of time in the Upper Peninsula with his son and three grandchildren.  His grandchildren were very special to him and he enjoyed being a grandpa. John also enjoyed motorcycles and had a great sense of humor. He was always cracking corny jokes and liked to make people laugh.

John was a very kind and generous person throughout his life. He volunteered his time to many organizations and was always there to give a helping hand.

Survivors include his son, Chad Brooks (fianceé, Sarah Schneider); grandchildren, Domenic, Abbigayl, and Gabriel; his siblings, Michael (Betty) Brooks, Leslie (William) Heffron, and Mary (John) Haight; several nieces and nephews; and his step-mother, Carol Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Brooks and his father, Kenneth Brooks.

Per John’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Gordon Park, located between Cedar Springs and Sand Lake on Northland Drive.  A luncheon will be provided.
