Gregory Lee Baylis, age 66, of Greenville, passed away September 14, 2022, at home with his wife by his side, under the care of Spectrum Health Hospice. Greg was born December 21, 1955, in Greenville, Michigan, to Jack & Emily (Walker) Baylis.

Graduating from Belding High School in 1974, that same year he married his high school sweetheart, Elaine (Arndt) Baylis, who survives. Greg joined the United States Navy upon high school graduation and served during the Vietnam War Era. Greg and Elaine made their home in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia, until 1983, when they moved back to Michigan to be near family.

In his early years, Greg worked in home construction, and he retired from Amway Corporation in December 2018 after 25 years as a set-up mechanic. Greg loved woodworking, making many pieces of furniture and craft items in his garage. He was especially proud of the wooden boat he built. He and Elaine also enjoyed camping with their 5th wheel over the years, taking many trips, including going to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, Bar Harbor, Maine, and ‘camping’ in his brother-in-law’s driveway in Holland, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  two sisters, Carole Olson and Jean Boroff;  and a nephew, Daniel Heaven.

Greg is survived by his spouse of 48 years, Elaine Baylis; along with their son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy & Katrina Baylis, and grandchildren Alec and Alyssa, all of Alabama; daughter, Jennifer Baylis of Greenville;  sister, Jan & Ted Beckwith;  brothers-in-law, Keith Boroff of Belding and Gary & Cheryl Arndt of Holland;  several   nieces and nephews and their spouses, and many Baylis family members.

Per Greg ’s wishes, there will be no visitation or formal funeral service. Private committal services, with military honors, will take place at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.

Oh, my heart is sad. So sorry to hear this news. As being his surrogate wife 😎, I hope he was making jokes until the end. I will hold a special place in my heart for his wise cracks, friendly banter and harassment. 💔

I will miss you my friend. Every time i go to Mackinaw I will look for your thimbleberry jam on the shelf still. Drive by the smoked fish place where I used to stop to get you and Elaine some fish to bring back. The calls and the texts, your voice saying ” just checking in on ya”. I love you brother and I will see you when I get there friend.
