Evelyn Appletena Thornton, 89 of Lansing, MI passed away on December 7, 2020 from Covid19 and the complications of several long-term illnesses.

She was born on February 17, 1931 in Beulah, Mississippi daughter to Ledonia and Robert Lucas who both preceded her in death.  She accepted Christ and was baptized in 1944 and at the time of her passing was an active member of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church; pastored by Rev. Lonnie Chipp.

Evelyn received her primary education in Mississippi.  Later she would supplement that early education with continuing education at Kennedy King College.  She also received training as a Certified Nursing Assistant and volunteered at Holt Senior Care & Rehab Center in Holt, MI.

Evelyn married Albert Thornton in July of 1997; he preceded her in death.  She was previously married to Milton Steen in 1947.

Evelyn had a passion for sewing and fishing, however she would say one of her proudest moments was learning to drive a car, which she accomplished much later in life.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn’s siblings preceded her in death.  She leaves to celebrate her life twenty-five nieces and nephews and a host of other family members, friends and loved ones.
