Dennis A. Klett, age 70, of Grand Rapids, died in his home on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Dennis was born on October 9, 1949, in Flint to Richard & Eleanor (Oleniczak) Klett. He graduated from Swartz Creek high school in 1967. Sports came easy to Dennis. He excelled in basketball, football, bowling, billiards and especially, golf. His passion for the game lasted long after he stopped playing. He always kept one golf bag in the trunk of his car and one next to the dresser in his bedroom, just in case.

He married his sweetie, Debra K. Gillespie, on April 26, 1969 in Flint. Through all of their ups and downs together, she remained the love of his life to the very end.

Dennis worked in auto sales for much of his adult life, but also sold homes, furniture, toys, and textiles. A born salesman, he was adept at winning people over through his charm and wit. He was naturally compelled to get to know the owner, manager, or staff of every business he ever stepped foot in and always remembered key details of their personal lives. If you entered a restaurant with him, you would likely hear someone call out, “Hey, Denny, you’re back!” Around the card table, he was a formidable opponent, though he always knew how to make it fun. Best known for quoting Hoyle and stealing the deal, a typical game of euchre with Dennis was anything but dull. And when you lost a game of pool to him, which you undoubtedly did, you somehow still ended up feeling like a winner. As his best friend, Marty, said, “…he was special. Not perfect, not always right, but for anyone he called, friend, he was special.”

He is preceded in death by both parents. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Debra; daughter, Julie Klett, son-in-law Steve Gatlin and granddaughter, Bailey Rose; daughter Sarah Klett and partner Jason Trumphfeller.

At his request, no service will be held.
