Deborah “Debbie” Romanowski, age 69, of Newaygo, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. She was born on Decemeber 9,1950, in Toledo, Ohio to Ralph and Barbara (Powell) Huffman.

Debbie was a kind woman that always gave more than she received. She was loving, caring and always looked at the positive qualities in anyone she met. Debbie was a unique woman with many different traits and skills. She liked fishing, cross country skiing as well as hiking and particularly reading as she loved a good book. She was an honor roll student in school and excelled in reading & vocabulary. Debbie was also a volunteer fire fighter at the Baldwin Fire Department for 12 yrs.; making her the first woman volunteer fire fighter they had ever had as well as being honored once as Firefighter of The Year. Her fellow firefighters knew her as one that could carry her weight with the men. Debbie cared for so many others, humans and animals alike. She worked in Hospice care for 12 years as a Health Aide. It was fitting as Hospice was able to give back care for her in the end, to enable her to pass peacefully in her home as she wished.

Debbie loved all animals. At one point, she had a hobby farm and raised goats, pigs and chickens. Debbie loved her dogs too. She always had dogs throughout her life which she and her husband rescued, including Great Danes, Labradors, and Boston’s. One in particular that she loved most was her loyal Boston, Holly who was constantly on her lap or side. Debbie met her husband Mike in 1978 in Grand Rapids. On February 27, 1982 they married in Whitneyville, Michigan. She was a staunch Detroit Lions fan and rooted them on watching every season football game with Mike.

In her recent years, Debbie has been a part of a sewing circle at Red Pine Bible Church (Kent City)of which she was a member and believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She and her sewing circle friends have made countless quilts they have donated to worthy causes. Her personal quilts were a work of art and a joy to behold; plus she was an avid sewer of many other things. She selflessly gave away most to family & friends. She was a woman with a zest for life and lived every day to the fullest. She will be deeply missed.

Debbie is survived by her husband Mike Romanowski, two sons Brandon and Barry Boyd; three grandchildren VanZant, Whitney and Andrew Barnett and their mother Jessica Boyd; her mother Barbara (Huffman) D’Emilio and her three siblings Vicki Huffman (Jack) Remelle, Mark (Connie) Huffman and Bruce (Cindy) Huffman; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Ralph Huffman.
