James, I was so saddened by the news of Charles’ passing. He was the library director who hired me and also was a remarkable presence in my life.

James, Dad, Teri and I are all very sad to hear this news. He was a kind and unique person to each of us. In Dad’s house is the picture of Charles, Frank Bellino, Bogdonavich and Arnie in front of Denison’s plaque, which they had a hand in re-naming. I will forever see him in his vest smoking his pipe. I remember Charles’ pizza parties and all the pomp and protocol that went along with them. Bless you and keep you and your Dad’s memory.

Condolences to Charles’ family. Charles hired me for my first job after library school. I learned a lot from him not just about the library world but also being a professional. He also had a great sense of humor. He had a (miniature) rhino collection in his office and told me that his son called him the “Big Rhino” or “B.R.” I still think of this when I spot the stuffed rhino doll which someone gave me as a gag.
    May Charles rest in peace.

Charles also turned out to be a key person in my life for bringing me to Central Ohio where I met my future wife. Thanks again Charles!
