Mrs. Wanda A. Schum, age 82, of Gowen, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 8, 2006 surrounded by her loving family at her daughters home. The daughter of Lawrence & Anna (Zaremba) Pawluczyk, she was born on Aug. 1, 1923 in Lackawana, New York. On Feb. 10, 1948, in Batavia, New York, she married Donald A. Schum. They made their home in New York until moving to Michigan 24 years ago to be closer to family. Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Donald A. Schum on August 2, 2005; her parents; her step-father, Phillip Malesczuk; and a brother, John Malesczuk. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, MaryAnn & Ferris Johnson of Gowen; her grandchildren, Theresa Dickinson of Greenville, Lisa & Jon Smidt of Colorado, Ferris Jr. & Jennifer Johnson of Sparta, Tammy & Rick Roy of Greenville, Denise & Norb Hoppe of Rockford; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Freda Prunella of Buffalo, NY, and Virginia Norton of Derby, NY; a brother, Edward Malesczuk of Angola, NY; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Courtney & Jean Schum of Ohio, Eugene Schum of Maine, and William & Meryl Schum of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Settlement Lutheran Church, north of Gowen on Johnson Road, with the the Rev. Aaron I. Sorrels III, pastor of Settlement Lutheran Church, officiating. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service. As Wanda wished, cremation will take place and burial will be at Little Denmark Cemetery, Gowen. Instead of flowers, Wanda would have appreciated contributions in her memory to either Hospice of Michigan (Big Rapids Office) or the American Heart Association.
