Viola Hattie Herroon, age 93, of Greenville, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at her home under the loving care of her family and Heartland Hospice. The daughter of Fred F. & Hattie Eva (Manzer) Barringer, she was born on August 9, 1919, in Troy Township, Newaygo County.

On November 19, 1938, in Maumee, Ohio, she married Raymond J. Herroon and together they enjoyed sixty-six years of marriage and raised six children. A devoted wife and mother, Viola also worked outside the home at Wolverine World Wide in Rockford and retired after 17 years of service. She enjoyed basket making, knitting, and crocheting, and was a faithful member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond J. Herroon, on February 26, 2005; two sons, Frank Jack Herroon on July 12, 2002 and Richard Elmer Herroon on October 2, 2012; seven grandchildren, Todd M. Edwards Herroon, Johnathan J. DeGood, Donald Herroon, Brandy Herroon, Patti Herroon, Jussie Mary DeGood and Angie Carr DeGood; four sisters, Mable Baker, Ethel Fountain, Mae Vamos, and Margaret Human; and four brothers, John Barringer, Herbert Barringer, Luey Barringer and George Barringer.

Surviving are her children, Violet Cross of Six Lakes, Ethel & Dan DeGood, Barb & Dennis Day, Ray John “Butch” & Virginia Herroon; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Herroon, all of Greenville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Michael F. Cilibraise presiding. Burial will follow, privately, at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Instead of flowers, Viola would have appreciated contributions in her memory to St. Charles Catholic Church.     I will always remember Mrs. Herroon as a Loving, Smiling and Happy Lady.
    When I was five years old, my sister and I spent a week at your home.
    We were all going to Churhill School and for me it was a wonderful fun week.

    My condolences to the family vi and ray were so special as our nieghbors and when my husband passed they came in there Sunday best and bearing food and stayed with me I will always treasure these memories ….     Mom and I knew Viola from the Rehab and Nursing Center where they shared meals together each day. She was a soft-spoken lovely lady and we miss her everyday. Our prayers are with her family.
