Steven Coleman Settlemyre, age 74, of rural Cedar Springs, passed away early Friday morning, November 11, 2016 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, after his fourth battle with cancer. The son of James Coleman & Retta "Iola" Settlemyre, he was born on July 3, 1942 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
On October 26, 1963, in Big Rapids, he married Sharon Kay Budd and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage and raised three children. Together they attended East Nelson United Methodist Church and enjoyed square dancing and quilting.
Steven retired from the former Electrolux Home Products after 41 years of service and was a skilled woodworker, creating many items that will be forever treasured by family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, playing his dulcimer, and also knitted stocking caps which he donated to area hospitals.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Coleman Settlemyre; his mother, Retta "Iola" Stiles; two step-fathers, Walter Andrew Enyart and Loren Stiles; four brothers, Jaremy Stiles, Jerry Settlemyre, Gerry Settlemyre, and Jeffrey Settlemyre; and three sisters, Marlene Settlemyre, Andria Merritt and Diane Stiles Wise.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon Settlemyre; their children, Dana & John Peterson of Allendale, Mark Settlemyre & Karen Swartwood of Grand Rapids, and Nicole & Thomas Rydahl of Greenville; five grandchildren, Mercedes Settlemyre, Emilee Phenix, Adam Everingham, Keristin Everingham, and Daniel Gotwalt; his brothers and sisters, James & Joan Settlemyre of Lansing, Jan & Connie Settlemyre of Zeeland, Marshall “Skip” Enyart of California, Walter Kim & Carol Enyart of Lakeview, Kelly & Jim Bouman of Paris, Kevyn & Becky Enyart of Chase, Linda Stiles Graham of Florida, Daryn & Tina Stiles of Ashton, Mari & Sam Dwyer of Big Rapids, and Jamie & Michael Hamilton of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life gathering beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at East Nelson United Methodist Church, 9024 18 Mile Road N.E. Cedar Springs. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place.
