Stanton Jay Curry, age 82, of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, May 16th at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, Byron Center. The son of C.H. “Doc” & Elizabeth H. (Croft) Curry, he was born on November 25, 1928 in Windom, Minnesota. On August 22, 1950, in Windom, he married Maralyn Anne Groves.

A member of Woodlawn Christian Reformed Church, Jay was an ordained American Baptist Minister having served churches in Iowa and Illinois and was a professor at Spoon River Community College, Canton, IL. Among the many service agencies for which he volunteered were the YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, Cursillo in Christianity, Walk to Emmaus, God’s Kitchen, Feeding America, Mel Trotter Ministries, and prison ministries.

Jay loved to fish, but more importantly, he was a fisher of men, and his greatest satisfaction was found in serving the marginalized of society. His family will remember him for his ironic and playful sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife, Maralyn Curry of Grand Rapids; three children, Dr. Steven (Ann) Curry (Ann) of Phoenix, AZ; Dr. Janel Curry of Grand Rapids, Brian Curry of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Misty), Rachel, and Aaron Curry, Marie & Karis Roper, Katherine and Julia Curry; one sister, Gwendolyn Donna McBirnie of Folsom, CA, and two nieces, Jill and Joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Robert McBirnie.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 20th at Breton Woods, Breton Terrace Chapel, 2500 Breton Woods Dr. S.E., Grand Rapids. Cremation rites have been accorded, and a family burial service will be at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery, Windom, Minnesota.
