Stanley Clinton Braden, age 54, of Gowen, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 12, 2012 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital in Greenville. The son of Claude & Ellen (Gould) Braden, he was born on March 5, 1958 in Greenville and attended Greenville High School.

Despite a swimming accident at the age of 18 that left him paralyzed, Stan lived life to the fullest and enjoyed anything with a chassis and wheels — especially Chevrolet’s, John Deere tractors, and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Before his injury he worked for CSX Railroad as a lineman and later owned a karaoke and D.J. business. He also liked computers and music and was an honorary member of the Wayward Sons Motorcycle Club.

Surviving are his parents, Claude & Ellen Braden of Gowen; a sister, Emily & Leo McKenna of Belding; two nieces, Molly McKenna of Chicago, Illinois, and Kate McKenna of Ypsilanti; a nephew, Caleb McKenna of Richmond, Virginia; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; a very special friend, Ruth Sanderson of Gowen; and many other dear friends.

Visitation is Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The Rev. Joan Skinner, Senior Pastor at Victory Church of Rockford, will officiate and burial will take place privately at Riverside Cemetery in Langston.

Envelopes for memorial contributions to either Living Faith Family Church or Victory Church of Rockford will be available at the funeral home. To send a message of sympathy to the family, sign Stan’s online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please visit: www.ChristiansenCares.com

    Dear Claud and Ellen,
Stan was a wonderful person and a wonderful friend. He was so tender and gentle with our Bailey Boo and treated her as his own. We remember Stan going with us to Hunter’s football games and telling him how proud he was of his efforts. He was indeed a one of a kind person and he will be deeply missed. We know he has a little corner of heaven where he is whole and able and can do all the things he wanted to do here. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and thank you for the opportunity of knowing your wonderful son.
    Love, Paul, Kathy and Hunter

My deepest sympathies to the Braden family. Having known Stan for many years(too many years sometimes), I grew to know him as a great friend (even when he ordered my drinks in sippy cups). Stan was always the life of the party. I remember many late night conversations where I talked and Stan would just listen to me complain. I am going to miss Stan very much.

Until recent developments Stan was more active than any person that had use of their legs, he did things they couldn’t/wouldn’t do using his wheelchair! He loved his Mom and Dad very much and talked often of how much they had done for him. He loved life and loved to laugh or make a good joke come alive. Always having a listening ear for friends with troubles. Stan will be sadly missed. I know he is going to be up there riding his long awaited “Harley” and singing the “Rodeo” song that made him laugh. We will miss you kiddo!!
