Shirley Jean Burns, 88, always an independent soul, passed away gently Thursday, July 25, 2013. She lived most of her life in the Detroit area, and moved to the Lansing area in 1994, after the passing of her husband, Robert J. Burns. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Will and Edith Webster, and her brother William who was lost in action in WWII. She is survived by a son, Daniel Webster and his wife (Maureen) of Dearborn; a daughter, Dianne (Webster) Dombrowski and her husband (Richard) of East Lansing. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Gettlinger of Shelby Township, MI, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Shirley faced many struggles after a life-changing stroke in 1989 and the passing of her husband in 1994. Never to be defeated, she continued to face life with a positive attitude and beautiful smile. She is missed by those who loved and cared for her. A memorial service will be held in Okemos August 9th and family memorials are planned in September.
