Sheryl Dawn Haner (Sherry) age 64 of Grand Rapids, MI passed away Tuesday June 4th, 2019 with her children by her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Sherry was born December 6th, 1954 to Jack and Clara Hoffman. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Haner, Rachel Haner, and Laura (Justin) Pickerd, her grandchildren Dylan, Dustyn, and Alexandra, her siblings Lorraine Hillard, Richard Hoffman, and Roger (Lee) Hoffman, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved dog Riley.
Sherry was a kind and loving mother who led by example how to be a strong independent woman. In addition to being a devoted mother, she was a loyal friend. She left behind a tight knit group of girlfriends whom she’d known for over 30 years, as well as friends she’s had since childhood and high school.
Sherry adored spending time outside in nature. She had a special connection to the state of Florida and would spend hours gathering shells and shark teeth along the beach. She was an avid gardener whose nurturing personality shone through while tending to her many plants and flowers. She loved feeding the birds in her yard, and even fed the hungry rabbits she worked so hard to keep out of her garden. Sherry enjoyed spending time going to garage sales, traveling, and exploring new places. Never knowing what treasures she may find, it was always more about the adventure she might come across. Sherry lived a social and athletic lifestyle. When she was younger, Sherry loved snow skiing. She played softball until she was 61 years old, and was on a pool league until the winter before her passing.
A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held from 6-9 pm on Friday, July 26th at The Guest House located at 634 Stocking Ave NW Grand Rapids MI 49504. It was her wish that everyone she knew and loved would come together to celebrate her life, and leave with more friends than they arrived with.
Tina could not have said it better, she was simply the best.
