Samuel P. "Sam" Haglund II, age 59, of Hessel, formerly of Greenville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, June 13, 2019 from his son's home near Lakeview after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The son of Frederick Albert "Fritz" & Margaret Morris (Leathley) Haglund, he was born on December 6, 1959 in Greenville. A graduate of Greenville High School, Sam followed in his father's footsteps and became a Master Electrician, had owned Fritz Electric, and was currently working for Shoreline Power Services.
On April 4, 1980, in Greenville, he married Susan Kay Snyder and together they enjoyed over 39 years of marriage, were members of Calvary Baptist Church, and after selling Fritz Electric they made their home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. At the age of 12 Sam began volunteering his time with the Montcalm County 4-H Fair and delighted in spending his time on the fairgrounds during fair week. He will long be remembered for his contributions to the new Montcalm County Fairgrounds. Sam enjoyed bicycling, hunting and fishing, music, old and ugly cars, and playing cards — especially teaching his grandchildren how to play poker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Shirley Perks-Haglund; a sister, Ann Haglund; a brother, Andrew Haglund; a nephew, Clinton J. Haglund; and a brother-in-law, Dean Snyder. Surviving are his wife, Susan "Suzi" Haglund; their children, Samuel P. III & Athena Haglund of Lakeview, Sunni M. Haglund of Ionia, and Stephen A. & Sadie Haglund of Fenwick; grandchildren, Jayden Haglund, Shayla Baker, Henry Haglund, Ezekial Haglund, Zappa Haglund, Riley Haglund, Jimmy & Julie Baker; two brothers, John F. Haglund, and Matthew E. & Olja Haglund, all of Greenville; his parents-in-law, J.C. & Dorothy Snyder of Greenville; siblings-in-law, Amanda Allen of Greenville and Greta & Richard Smith of Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, 12501 Montcalm Avenue, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019. The Rev. R. Mark Shaw, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate and a luncheon will follow the ceremony.
Instead of flowers, Sam would have appreciated contributions in his memory to either the Benevolent Fund at Calvary Baptist Church or to the Montcalm County Fair Association.
