Mr. Ronald LeRoy Bud Godfrey, age 69, of Lowell, formerly of Greenville and Hesperia, passed away Tuesday evening in the emergency room of Spectrum Health-Blodgett Campus, East Grand Rapids. The son of George A. & Marie M. (Hall) Godfrey, he was born on July 23, 1936 in Greenville. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1954, he served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. He then attended Central Michigan University and taught at Barryton and St. Charles Catholic School in Greenville. He also served three years with the Michigan National Guard. After completing his Masters degree at C.M.U., Ron continued his career in education as a guidance counselor at Hesperia High School, retiring in 1987. In Hesperia he was a member of the American Legion, had served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 133, and also taught drivers education. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cribbage and euchre. Ron will be best remembered for his kind heart, his excellent story telling abilities, and his special way with people.

Surviving are his children, Amanda & Roy Garza of Muskegon, and David & Mary Godfrey of Middleville; three grandsons, Jeremy Hugall, David Longcore, and Nathanael Garza; two step-grandchildren, Delia Garza and Roy E. Garza; two brothers, Dick & Nora Godfrey and Gilbert & Linda Godfrey, all of Greenville; a sister, Glenna Cowles of Belding; two aunts and an uncle, Rena Edwards and Mildred Frandsen, both of Lansing, and Charles Hall of Greenville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As he wished, private family services will be held and burial will be in Sidney Township Cemetery, Sidney. To send a message of sympathy with the family, sign Rons online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please click the “Sign Guest Book” link above.
