Ronald Eugene Simmons, age 83, of Jenison, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, May 12, 2019.  He was born January 17, 1936, to the late Eleanor Marie (Simmons) DeShane. 

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1956 where he learned how and developed a passion for cooking.  In 1957 he married Doris Estrada and together they had six wonderful children before Doris passed away on November 10, 1998.  Ron graduated from Kelloggsville High School in 1976.  He worked at Kelvinator for over thirty years and an additional ten years at Haworth where he retired.  On January 3, 2006, Ron married Karen Coleman in Wyoming, Michigan.  He was a man of faith and a member at St. Luke University Parish in Georgetown Township. 

Ron had a big heart and loved knitting hats that he would donate to local hospitals, schools, senior centers, and various organizations.  He enjoyed playing cards, the lottery, bowling, listening and singing music of all genres, playing the organ and guitar, and traveling with Karen.  Ron was an avid golfer and organized the Simmons Golf Outing for over twenty five years. 

Survivors include his wife, Karen; five daughters, Deborah (Rick) Lukens, Diana (Larry) Hansen, Carol (Daniel) Jones, Pamela (Dave) Keim, and Rhonda (James) Posthumus; son, Ronald (Danielle) Simmons; four step-children, Susan Schular, Lisa (Todd) Randolph, Denise Temple, and Tricia (Robbert) Tanis; son-in-law, Richard Wheeler; 12 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters; 2 sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor; his first wife, Doris; and step-daughter, Cheryl Wheeler. 

Visitation will be Saturday, May 18, 2019, at St. Luke’s Parish, 10144 42nd Ave. Georgetown Township, MI 49428, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Bill VanderWerff officiating.  Interment will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens in Grandville.
