Robert Charles "Bob" Pendell, age 62, of Langston, was victorious over his two-year battle with lung cancer and went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. The youngest of seven children, he was born on December 20, 1953 in Alma to Donald Warren & Beryl (Shining) Pendell. After graduating from Lakeview High School, he began his career at Meijer Store No. 1 in Greenville and retired after 42 years of service. He loved helping customers and co-workers and was told by several people that they shopped at Meijer just so they could visit with him.
On March 16, 1974, at Butternut Bible Church, he married Kathy Ann Jensen and together they were blessed with three sons, enjoyed 42 years of marriage, and were members of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville. Bob had a life long passion for music, both playing guitar and singing, and was a part of the Praise Team at Calvary Baptist Church, where he also had been active in the church's Sunday school and became known to many as "Uncle Bob". He loved all children and never lost the art of playing like a kid, but most of all he delighted in time spent with his own family and grandchildren, who knew him as "Papa".
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James "Jim" Pendell; and two brothers, Warren Pendell and Gary Pendell. Surviving are his wife, Kathy Pendell of Langston; two sons, Jason & Joy Pendell of Trufant, and Jeremiah "Jerry" & Trisha Pendell of Amble; eight grandchildren, Dustin, Darren, Zachary, Brooklynn, Raeleigh, Calvin, Vincent, and Everett; four sisters, Gloria & Ron Bartlett of Wyman, Sharon & Russ Schaffer of Middleton, Judy & Larry Petersen of Sand Lake, and Becky & Russ Chomic-Huyser of Ada; siblings-in-law, Barb Pendell of Holland, MaryEllen Pendell of Carson City, Linda & Phillip Platz, Sven "Tom" & Salena Jensen, all of Florida, William "Bill" & Melissa Jensen of Georgia, and Cheryl & Doug Hire of California; and many aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation with the family is from 12-1 p.m. on Monday at Faith Baptist Church, 315 S. Greenville West Drive, Greenville, where a service of praise and thanksgiving to God for Bob's life will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Bob's pastor, Rev. R. Mark Shaw of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate and a time of food and fellowship will follow the service. Burial will take place privately at Riverside Cemetery in Langston.
Instead of flowers, Bob would have appreciated contributions in his memory to Calvary Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church. Our lives are but fine weaving that God & We prepare. Each life becomes a fabric planned & fashioned in His care. We may not always see just how the weavings intertwine but we must trust the Masters hand & follow His design. For He can see the pattern upon the upper side while we must look from underneath & trust in Him to guide. Prayers for you & your family Kathy.
Gloria & Ron, Sorry to hear this, just saw it. God needed him but am sure he will be missed. Love, Gayle, etal
