Robert F. Bob Bartholomew, age 78, of Langston, passed away Tuesday morning, April 26, 2005 at his home. The son of Arza & Luella (Badge) Bartholomew, he was born on May 14, 1926 in Grand Haven. A veteran of World War II, Bob served with the U.S. Army in both the European and Pacific theaters. After returning home from the war, on Nov. 23, 1946, in Greenville, he married the former Doris E. Gibbie.

He was an active member of his combat veterans group, the 84th Infantry Division Railsplitters, and enjoyed attending the groups reunions, as well as being a life member of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan. For over 40 years Bob worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company, retiring in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and sisters in infancy; a brother, Nick Bartholomew; and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Grace Buskirk-Stout, Louise & Elmer Bush, and Mary Stang; his parents-in-law, Adrian Ed & Sadie Gibbie; and twin great grandsons, Billy and Ricky Collins.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Doris Bartholomew; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki & Richard Shindorf of Langston, and Sadie & John Springsteen of Greenville; a brother, Ben Bartholomew of Three Rivers; grandchildren, Johnny & Julie Springsteen, Melissa & T.J. Clapp, Laura & Ben Hartley, Jody & Bill Collins, Cal Shindorf and Darci, Amy & James Liggett, Sarah & Jamey Brecht, Richard Shindorf, and Janelle & Adam Sweet; great grandchildren, Breanna, Monica, Darrick, Sabrina, Jared, Bethany, Laura, Trevin, Kade, Autumn, and Brielle; two sisters-in-law, Jane & Bill Snyder of Langston, and Betty Miller of Greenville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. The Rev. Roger Cooper, pastor of Brockway Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial, with military honors rendered by the Lester J. Sitts V.F.W. Post 5065 will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Langston. Visitation is on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Envelopes for memorial contributions to either the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association are available at the funeral home.
