Richard James "Dick" DeLamater, age 76, of Nevins Lake, Stanton, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of James L. & Iris E. (Taylor) DeLamater, he was born on December 31, 1941 in Jackson.
On December 12, 1969, in Belding, he married Vickie Sue Bartlett and together they enjoyed almost 49 years of marriage and raised five children. Dick retired from the former Electrolux Home Products as a press operator after 37 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 452 in Stanton, took pride in keeping his lawn in pristine condition, and was the self-appointed "Sheriff of Gracie Acres" keeping watch on the safety and security of the neighborhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Vickie S. DeLamater; a daughter, Shawn White of Greenville; four sons, Doug DeLamater & Jessica Sirard of Greenville, Rick DeLamater & Michael Applegate of Orlando, Florida, Robert & Corie DeLamater of Stanton, and Tim & Michelle Bogue of Sidney; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Duane & Leanne Bartlett of Greenville; special friends, Terry Sprank, John Cotrell, Matt Kuhn, Frank Falsetta, Joe Pellish, and Lyle Blaisdell; and many other loved relatives and friends.
Dick loved celebrating the Independence Day holiday with family and friends, and fittingly, relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4th at the Stanton American Legion Post No. 452, 337 W Day Street, Stanton. Honoring his wishes, private committal services will be held at Sidney Township Cemetery. Instead of flowers, Dick would have appreciated contributions in his memory to the Stanton American Legion Post No. 452.
