Richard James Monroe, age 73, passed away on Friday, July 15, at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Battle Creek.

The son of Richard Crowley and Mary Elizabeth (McMahon) Monroe, he was born on December 11, 1937 in Detroit. A disabled veteran of the Vietnam War, Richard served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army.

Committal services, with full military honors rendered by the United States Marine Corps, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Michigan Cremation Company, Grand Rapids, honored provider of Veterans Funeral Care.
