Richard L. Boyd, age 86, of Delton, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on July 30, 2018.

He was born on July 21, 1932, in Defiance, Ohio, to Liston & Mable (McNett) Boyd and grew up in the Bronson Michigan area. After moving to the Delton area in the late 60’s he met and married the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Baker Ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Peggy, niece Kimberly Boyd, stepson Robert “Bobby” Ball and grandson Steven Worst.

Richard is survived by his brother Jerry & Muriel Boyd; his nephew Tobin Boyd; grandnephew Christopher Boyd; Aunt Marie Rader; step-daughter Pam & Marc Worst; grandsons Marc Worst II and Jay & Oksana Ball; great-grandchildren Aurora, Jacob and Grace Worst; as well as his kitty Puff.

Richard served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fraternal order of Eagles since 1955. Dick was very active with the Delton Moose Lodge, achieving the Pilgrim status.  He was also a Charter member of the Delton VFW post 422 and the American Legion.

Richard loved to play golf and did so until his legs no longer let him. He was an avid reader and loved sharing his books with others. Richard was a man that you could count on to be there, in any way he could, to help. He loved to just drop by, chat and share a meal with his beloved friends. When he was well, Richard would enjoy baking and delivering goodies. Although a little (okay…. a lot) opinionated, he never lied and would always tell it like it was. He had many friends and lots of extended family. Richard often said, you either like me or you don’t.

Honoring his request and wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Fort Custer National Cemetery where Military Honors will be rendered. Against his wishes a memorial celebration of life for family and friends will be held Saturday August 25th from 2 to 4 pm at the Delton VFW Post 422.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delton District Library.

The family would like to thank his many friends and neighbors for all the help they have given Dick since the passing of his wife as well as during his recent struggle with cancer. We could never repay you for your generous support and love. We wish we could name all of you here, but you know who you are.
