Reed Carlyle Jorgensen, age 90, formerly of Edmore, passed away Monday morning, September 3, 2012 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital in Greenville. The son of Bryan & Ellan (Rider) Jorgensen, he was born on March 9, 1922 in at home near Edmore.

On Feb. 1, 1942 he married Irene Lucille Richardson and together they made their home in Edmore and raised three children. A decorated veteran of World War II, Mr. Jorgensen proudly served in the U.S. Army in both the Central Europe and Rhineland (Germany) theaters and was a member of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan.

Reed had worked in farming, at the former General Electric-Hitachi magnetics plant in Edmore, and also in construction — both as a homebuilder and in civil and commercial construction.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Irene L. Jorgensen on March 31, 2009; and by a brother, Bob Jorgensen; and a sister, Irene McManus. Surviving are his children, Chris & Donna Jorgensen of Gladstone, Missouri, Curtis Jorgensen & Linda Headley of Remus, and Cheryl & Cliff Dobbrastine of Lakeview; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty & Ben Nestle of Riverdale; four grandchildren, Marcy & Tim Simon of Greenville, Kandi Holmstrom & Matt Wyss of Grand Rapids, Joshua & Becky Jorgensen, and Nicki Jorgensen & Chris Jay, all of Florida; nine great grandchildren, Shaleigh Simon, Hunter Simon, Seth Simon, Brinley Holmstom, Reed Holmstom, Keagan Holmstrom, Kellan Wyss, Reed Jorgensen, and Trayton Jorgensen; and several nieces and nephews.

A time of remembrance, with refreshments, will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Douglass Township Hall, Entrican, with Mr. Jorgensen’s grandson, Pastor Tim Simon of the Rockford Resurrection Life Church, officiating. Military honors, rendered by the U.S. Army and the Lester J. Sitts V.F.W. Post 5065, will conclude the ceremonies at 4:15 p.m.

I was hoping to be at the Memorial Service but, sadly, I am committed to be in Detroit that day.

Our prayers are with you during this time of grieving.
