Raymond “Hudd” Huddlestun, 86, well-known millinery designer, “Madhatter of the Midwest”, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Brookhaven Medical Care Facility in Muskegon.

Raymond attended the School of the Art Institute and worked as a window designer for Wieboldt’s before finding his true calling as a millinery designer. Over his 50 year career, he designed over 500 hats for Phyllis Diller. In 2002 the Chicago History Museum held a retrospective of Raymond’s career and work, where they retain over 100 of his creations.

He is survived by one brother, Ivan Huddlestun of Moreno Valley, California; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A memorial service is being held on Sunday, August 21, 12noon at the Ramada Inn, 4079 West US-10, Ludington. Another service is being considered, to occur in Chicago at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Raymond Hudd Millinery Award, c/o School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Office of Development, 37 South Wabash Avenue, suite 818, Chicago, IL 60603.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Michigan Cremation Company, Grand Rapids.
