Mrs. Phyllis Schultz, 74, of Bellevue, Washington, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 in Bellevue. The daughter of John & Eva Barthel, she was born on March 11, 1936 in New Hudson. Her family later moved to Milford where she graduated from high school in 1955. In June of 1956, she married Loren Schultz in Greenville and they made their home in Bellevue for the past 37 years.
Passionately interested in learning, Phyllis had many interests ranging from art history to writing to literature. She continued to take classes throughout her life, eventually receiving an Associate in Arts Degree with an emphasis in Art History from Bellevue College in 1980. An extrovert by nature, Phyllis enjoyed her work in retail sales and loved making new friends wherever she went. She spent many years as an elementary school tutor, delighting in the challenge of connecting with kids and inspiring them with her love of learning. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, writing, and travel.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Loren Schultz; daughter, Dana Mongillo; grandsons, Dillon and Finley Mongillo; two sisters Rosemary Ellis of Portland, Oregon and Kathleen Dominquez of Lake Elsinore, California; a brother, Laurence Barthel of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Joyce Ellsworth of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions to the Alzheimers Association will be available.
