Paul Willard Tompsett, age 89, of Trufant, passed away Saturday evening, September 29, 2018 at Lakeview Terrace Assisted Living under the care of  Spectrum Health Hospice and with his loving family at his side.  The son of Charles Raymond & Ellen Marie (Christiansen) Tompsett, he was born on September 14, 1929 in Maple Valley Township.  

Paul was a proud veteran of the Korean War era, serving with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska.  On November 6, 1953, in Belding, he married Sharon Elizabeth Clements and together they enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage and raised four children.  After 41 1/2 years of service, Paul retired from the former Electrolux Home Products in Greenville.  Paul loved his Farmall tractor and enjoyed deer hunting with the boys at the farm.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Marie Tompsett;  his father, Charles Tompsett;  his step-mother, Gay Tompsett;  a brother, Raymond Tompsett;  and two sisters, Dorothy Rowland and Margaret Wilson.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Tompsett of Trufant;  their four children, Sherry & Rodney Snyder of Stanton, David & Nancy Tompsett of Higgins Lake, Pat & Chris Ehlert of Stanton, and Jeff & Julie Tompsett of Trufant;  eleven grandchildren;  eleven great grandchildren — with the twelfth due in 2019;  a sister, Charlotte Peck of Muskegon;  two brothers-in-law, Robert & Charlene Clements, and Phillip & Shirley Clements;  and several nieces and nephews. 

Honoring Paul's wishes, private committal services, with military honors, will be held at Trufant Cemetery.  Instead of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Paul's memory to the Spectrum Health Foundation.
