Owen Townsend
of Kalamazoo, MI
passed away on Sunday, December 16 at the age of 88, after a long illness. Owen was born in Oakwood on August 8, 1924, the son of the late Russell and Ella Townsend. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, and married his childhood sweetheart, Audrey Kite, in 1944. Together they owned and operated the Otsego Inn in the 1970’s. Owen and his brother-in-law Clarence Vandenberg were engaged for many years in the painting and decorating business in the Kalamazoo area, after which he performed the same services for First of America for the last ten years of his career.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Audrey Townsend; his son Scott Townsend and Scott’s life partner-spouse, Christopher Wolfe, of Coopersburg PA; his niece, Janice (Vandenberg) Feldmann, of Kalamazoo; his nephew, Dennis Townsend of Rome, Italy; and several other neices and nephews. Owen was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Townsend, and his sister, Arlene Schuhardt. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorials may be made to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center, Attn Voluntary Services / Alzheimer’s Unit, 5500 Armstrong Drive, Battle Creek, MI 49037.

Committal Service Scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:30am. It will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery 15501 Dickman Road Augusta, MI 49012.
