Norbert W. Battermann of Wyoming passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Trillium Woods Faith Hospice in Byron Center, Michigan at the age of 89.

Norb was born November 25, 1922, in Sayville, NY. He studied mechanical engineering and received his BS from The Missouri College of Science & Technology, in Rolla, MO in 3 years. Norb completed ROTC training in college & OCS in Virginia, where he met his future bride, Marie. Norb served overseas during WWII for 17 months. After marrying in 1946, Norb & Marie established many friendships while living in Grand Rapids, Plymouth, Wyoming, MI and St. Petersburg, FL. Throughout his career, Norb worked as an aerospace engineer for Bendix & Honeywell, including working on the space shuttle. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, wine-making, cooking, dancing with Marie, local government, playing “65” with his grandkids and most of all, the ocean.

Norb will forever be remembered by his children Tom, Dean (Lory), and Lynne (Greg) Jankowski; grandchildren Erin, Cathy (Derek), Kelly (Ryan), Bobbie Sue, Kate (Bryan), Adam and Dayna; great-grandchildren Vinnie and Daryn; sister Marie (Whitehill/Mairhuber); sister-in-law Jean Battermann; and many nieces & nephews.

Preceding him in death was his loving wife of 64 years, Marie (nee Gilman); sister Ency “Dink” (John) Griek; brother William Battermann; and parents Ludwig & Ency Battermann.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Trillium Woods Faith Hospice, 8214 Pfeiffer Farms Drive SW, Bryon Center, MI.
