Nicholas Jay VanDoeselaar, age 22, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully after a long fight on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 with loved ones by his side.

The son of Shannon Meyer & Rusty VanDoeselaar, he was born on July 5, 1996 in Grand Rapids.

Nick was the type of person who had a presence about him.  He had a wonderfully contagious smile and loved laughter.  Nick was an avid fisher who loved the culinary arts and dreamed of becoming a chef.  When he was with friends and family, you could find him playing disc golf and getting “Fuzzy”.  Nick was also a caring person who, when he could, would give out food to the homeless.  He also had a love for tattoos and simply being with the people he cherished.

Nick will be remembered by his mother, Shannon Meyer & Chazz Brant; father Rusty VanDoeselaar; his siblings Skylar, Jacob and Rellik; half sister Ellie, his Grandma & Grandpa Zimmer; grandparents Ken & Glenda VanDoeselaar, as well as lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He will also be missed by his many friends.

Please join the family for a time of visitation on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, with the memorial gathering beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Please consider a donation in Nick’s honor to the Brain Injury Association of America to continue their focuses on education, training, research, and advocacy. A lot of their efforts are on national TBI advocacy and policy-related work to help improve the quality of life of individuals living with these serious injuries. With regard to its research, BIAA’s initiatives are in the area of rehabilitative and physical therapy-related treatment for people who are living with traumatic brain injuries.

Nick has touched more lives in his short walk on the earth than most do in a long life.
Nick’s courage and strength are only part of a long and oft times painful journey. His journey doesn’t end here, his legacy begins!
My sincere and humble condolences to all who grieve his passing.
Rest in Glorious Peace Nick! You are so very loved.
