Mrs. Mary Kathleen (Farrey) Austin, age 70, of Comstock Park, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. She grew up in Grand Rapids, where she graduated from Catholic Central High School, and went on to attend Grand Rapids Junior College. Kathy was a dental assistant, homemaker, daycare provider, and the bookkeeper for her and her husband John’s family business, Midwest Medical Systems, LLC.

She was a very passionate and giving person, who was known to shelter animals, family, and friends in times of need. Kathy enjoyed spending time with loved ones, walking her dogs, gardening, and boating on Freska Lake. Kathy devoted twenty years to teaching Sunday school at Assumption Church in Belmont. She met her husband John and married in June 28, 1973.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Austin; daughter, Michelle Burchfield; parents, Donald and Lorainne (Balicki) Farrey; brother, Terrance Farrey; and step-son, John Jr Austin.

Kathy is survived by her children, Jeffrey Austin, and Dr. Maureen Austin, of Greenville, Stacey (Austin) Schaub, and Christopher Schaub, of Comstock Park; step-son, Blake (Dena) Austin, of Brevard, NC; daughter-in-law, Michelle (Austin) Brown, of LA; sister, Patricia (Richard) Cook; sister-in-law, Barbara Farrey; and grandchildren, Lee Gamm, Claire Gamm, Jackson Austin, Silas Austin, Leah Austin, Samantha Vanderson, Zachary Austin, and Holly Austin.
