Mary Jean Root, age 71, of Sheridan, passed away early Thursday morning, January 25, 2018 at home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice.  The daughter of Eugene Francis & Margaret Elaine (Kerr) Spencer, she was born on January 21, 1947 in Lake Odessa. 

After high school, Mary worked at General Tire in Ionia, and then at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids where she started as a telephone operator and retired as housekeeping supervisor.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  a brother-in-law, Brian Michael;  and a nephew, Joey Willis.  Surviving are her daughter, Autumn Root of Sheridan;  two sisters, Kim Willingham of Orleans, and Kay Willis of Redford Township;  an aunt, Sandra Royston of Portland;  two nephews, Jonny Wooley and Jeffrey Willis;  two special friends, "Queenie" and Coleen Johnson;  her granddog, Sophie;  and many other dear friends.

Visitation with the family is from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rev. Phillip Mills, pastor of Greenville Bible Methodist Church, will officiate.
