Martha Lynn Moorhead, age 44, of Sheridan, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 12, 2014 from injuries received in an automobile accident in Cannon Townhsip. The daughter of Theron & Irene (Snyder) Avery, she was born on May 4, 1970 in Ellenville, New York.

On December 31, 1994, at the Family Life Center Church of God in Belding, she married Jeffery Alton Moorhead and together they enjoyed almost 20 years of marriage and raised two daughters. For over 15 years Martha worked for Meijer and was pursuing the management track to become a store director… however she was proudest of her title as “Grandma”. While she enjoyed reading and repurposing others trash into treasures, her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Theron Avery in 1976 and her mother-in-law, Diana L. Jensen on September 30, 2014.

Surviving are her husband, Jeff Moorhead of Sheridan; two daughters, Athena & Will Overton of Belding, Ariella & Steven Wells of Sheridan; three grandchildren, Theron Wells, Annebelle Wells, and Juliet Overton; her mother and step-father, Irene & Jacob Thompson of Florida; three brothers and a sister, Walt & Peggy Hildebrand of Florida, Tom & Brenda Avery of New York, Jeri-marie & Mike Major of Florida, and Craig & Angel Avery of Nebraska; a brother-in-law, Lynn & Rachael Jensen of Belding; several nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation with the family is from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The Rev. William Overton, pastor of the Family Life Center Church of God, will officiate and a luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Family Life Center Church of God in Belding. As Martha wished, cremation will take place.

Instead of flowers, Martha would have appreciated contributions to the “Martha Moorhead Back to School Bash” at Family Life Center Church of God, which was Martha’s special ministry that provided backpacks and school supplies to hundred’s of local children and has now been named in her honor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. To send a message of sympathy to the family, sign Martha’s online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please visit: www.ChristiansenCares.com

My memory of Martha, the 1st Christmas season that I worked at store 1, (every 2 minutes they would page Martha Moorehead dial—)Later that night I saw her in center aisle, and I mentioned that she must sometimes wish her name was anything but Martha? She said sometimes, but this was also about 5 hrs into the night.

My first memory of Martha, was,one night at the old store, aroundValentines Day, the store lost power(so there was very little light) I came around the corner with the mop machine and two flashlights, and scared the beegeebees out of her.

So sorry for the tragic loss of Martha.
I wish to share comfort from the Bible at this sad time.
The Bible teaches that one day in the near future our Creator, Jehovah God, by means of the ransom sacrifice of his son, Jesus, will reunite us with our dead loved ones by means of a resurrection right here on earth in paradise conditions that will be filled with peace, happiness, and perfect health for everyone..

These texts are found at John 5:28,29; Psalm 37:9-11,29; in your Bible.

There is much Bible-based comfort to be found on the website jw.org

I am so blessed to have got to know Martha, she was such a giving, fun-loving and sincere person. I enjoyed the Bible studies and women group studies that we’ve had. This last group of meetings, we got to know Martha, and the other ladies and their struggles, more, in that way we were able to pray for each other, better. It was nice meeting Martha’s family, and I’ve always enjoyed seeing Irene, when she visited. God bless each one of you. I’ll miss working and talking with Martha, very much. I was privileged to be a co-worker with her, in the Kingdom of God. Hasta Luego, mi amiga!

I remember thinking when Martha decided to move on with her career, that I had lost not only the best boss, but a good friend. I knew our loss was there gain (wherever her career sent her) and despite how hard it was to go back to work again, that we’d have to keep going knowing that it wouldn’t be the same but that she had good things going for her and thinking that at some point we’d get the opportunity to work together again.

She had a laughter and a brightness that would light up any room, and I can honestly say things without her seems a little bit darker now, but just like when she left before our loss is now heavens gain and I truly believe there are good things ahead for her now as well and who knows maybe someday we’ll have the opportunity to work together again!

God bless the family, Really going to miss her!
