Irene M. (Duncan) Taylor went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her long-time home in Grand Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her best friend and beloved husband, Charles Taylor; and her son, Donald “Donnie” Taylor (KIA Vietnam War, U.S. Army Ranger). Irene is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Kenneth) Dicks, of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Robert “Bob” (Donna) Taylor, of Grand Rapids; siblings, Nelma Trammell, and Eulis Duncan, both of Kentucky. She was a grandmother to 4 grandchildren; a great grandmother to 5; an aunt; and great aunt to many.
Irene retired as a teacher from Collins Elementary School in the Forest Hills School District. Her summers were enjoyed at the family cottages, Kozy Kove Cottages, in Pentwater. Born on April 1, 1927, her childhood was spent in Corbin, Kentucky. As a long time member of Cascade Christian Church, and Centenary United Methodist Church, she enjoyed Sunday worship and socializing with her prayer group.
She is loved by many and missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 16, 2017 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 82 N. Hancock Street, Pentwater, where light refreshments will follow the service. Internment will be at the Cascade Township Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
