Mr. Lyle Edwin Mathewson, age 69, of Belding, passed away early Friday morning, December 10, 2010 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital, Greenville. The son of Royal & Edith (Saubert) Mathewson, he was born on September 7, 1941 at Cedar Lake.
Following his graduation from Belding High School in 1959, he served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Cold War era, serving from 1959-1962. While stationed in Germany, he met his wife, Monica Ihrig and they were married there on September 7, 1961. For 37 years Lyle worked at Extruded Metals in Belding and loved camping, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed working on his 1950 Ford.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Monica Mathewson of Belding; their children, Judy & Dennis Williams of Cedar Springs, Ginny & Jeff Hubbard of Gowen, Gloria & Michael Hirsch of Benton Harbor, and Michael & Sue Mathewson of Greenville; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Leo Mathewson of Columbus, Wisconsin, Virgil Mathewson of Belding, Virginia & Bob Smalley of Fenwick, Cecil & LaVerna Mathewson of Belding, Marjorie & James Stockton of Beldoing, Dorothy & Lou Mrozovich of Battle Creek, and Rex Mathewson of Sheridan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Shiloh Community Church, 8197 Heth Street, Orleans, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger, officiating.
Military honors, rendered by the U.S. Army, will conclude the ceremony and a luncheon will follow. Burial will take place privately at West Montcalm Cemetery.
