Mrs. Luisa Veronica Castellanos, age 74, of Greenville, formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 from injuries received in an accidental fall at home. The daughter of Rigoberto & Alexandria (Velasquez) Felico, she was born on Sept. 9, 1932, in Olguin, Cuba. On Nov. 11, 1952, in Cuba, she married Gerardo F. Castellanos. They later escaped communist Cuba and made their home in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Mrs. Castellanos’ worked for many years for the Pinellas County School Board in plant maintenance.


Her husband, Gerardo F. Castellanos, passed away in June of 2004, and she then came to Greenville to be closer to her daughter. In Greenville she was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and also enjoyed participating in Montcalm County Commission on Aging activities in Stanton.


Surviving are two children, Maria Z. Schmitz and Gerardo R. Castellanos, both of Greenville; a sister, Maria Sirakoff of New York City; five grandchildren, Nicole & Ben Parris, Billie Schmitz, Jessica Schmitz, Jennifer & Joe Weber, and Gerald R. Castellanos, Jr.; and two great grandchildren, Brandon Parris and Kyle Parris.


A Christian burial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, corner of Cass and Clay streets, downtown Greenville, with the Rev. Father John Kirkman officiating. A time of food and fellowship will follow the ceremony. Honoring Luisa’s wishes, cremation has already taken place.
