Louis C. Peer, Jr., age 94, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, January 17, 2015 from his home under the loving care of his wife, daughters, and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Beryl Viola (Snider) & Louis Clint Peer, Sr. , he was born on May 3, 1920, in Mesick.
A veteran of World War II, Louis proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Pennsylvania in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and helped to liberate the Philippine Islands from Japanese occupation. He was a life member of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan and the Ray E. Bostick American Legion Post 94 in Cadillac.
Following the war he returned to Greenville and on December 7, 1946, in Greenville, he married Geneva Pearl Ostrom and together they raised seven children, enjoyed over 68 years of marriage, were longtime members of the First Church of God in Greenville, and loved traveling across America together.
Louis retired from Federal Mogul Corp. in Greenville after 32 years of service and enjoyed woodworking, golfing, hunting and fishing, and just being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wilda Morris and Janice Hauff; two brothers, Stanley Peer and Donald Peer; two daughters-in-law, Wilma Peer and Patricia Peer; and two infant grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Geneva Peer of Greenville; their children, Duane & Ann Peer of Trufant, Devere Peer or Rockford and Phyllis Peer of Florida, Darwin & Linda Peer of Standish, Marvin & Bobbie Peer of Indiana, David & Molly Peer of Connecticut, Doreen & Kim Akkerhuis of Greenville, and Dawn & Randy Kincaid of Cedar Springs; a brother-in-law, Martin Hauff; a sister-in-law, Lisa Peer of Florida; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. His pastor, Rev. Bob Cooper, along with longtime family friend, Rev. Tim Hyde, will officiate committal services, with full military honors, will take place in the spring at Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville.
