Lewis Adam Barnes, Jr., age 73, of Sheridan, passed away Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010 at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming. The son of Irene Rattay & Lewis Adam Barnes, Sr., he was born on Nov. 10, 1936 in Norwalk, Connecticut and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Lewis retired from Jordan Manufacturing, and as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking, and boondocking. On Jan. 13, 1995, in Stanton, he married Margaret Ann Merren-Miller. He also wrote and published poetry, and loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids… who called him “Grandpa Loowee”.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis A. Barnes, Sr.; his mother, Irene Bunce; and his step-father, Harold Bunce.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret A. Barnes of Sheridan; his children, Bret & Debbie Barnes of Sheridan, Cheryl Lea Chicken of Grand Rapids, Douglas & Missy Barnes of Gowen, and Walter & Holly Barnes of Stanton; his step-children, Chuck Miller of Greenville, Kelly & Ned Springsteen of Sheridan, Jimmie Miller of Barryton, Cindy Enbody of Greenville, and John Miller of Greenville; twenty-one grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey & Ron Demorest of Greenville, and Jean Rauwolf of Indiana; a brother, Tom Barnes of Indiana; two step-brothers, Casey Bunce, John & Kathy Bunce; a step-sister, Mary & Bob Newland; his mother-in-law, Frances Merren of Greenville; eight siblings-in-law, Bud Merren of Kentucky, Joan & Dale Keeler, Terry & Evelyn Merren, all of Greenville, Mark & Collen Merren of Belding, David Merren of Saugatuck, Carol Jasso of Greenville, Mike & Linda Merren, and Brian Paul Merren, all of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 12-1 p.m. Pastor Jeff Wilhelm of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church will officiate and military honors, rendered by the U.S. Navy, will conclude the ceremonies.
