Leroy “Bud” G. Thompson Sr., age 95, of Hesperia, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 at home surrounded by family.

The son of Roy & Pearl (Gleason) Thompson, he was born on January 23, 1922 in Bitely. Bud was joined in marriage to Vonnie Dutcher on January 8, 1948 where they then made their home in Hesperia together. 

He was a farmer and logger for most of his life. For 34 years he was a sexton of Volney Cemetery in Bitely and 35 years of county service of the ASC in Newaygo Co. Bud’s other interests included hunting, following the Tigers diligently, and gardening; with his garden being on of his main delights in his retirement years.

Bud was a friend to many and always had a generous heart. Taking his tractor our on a stormy night to pull someone out of a ditch, giving a stranded motorist a couple gallons of gas to get to town, or making a person loan to someone in a time of need these were just some of many kind gestures he was noted for.

Bud is receded in death by his parents; sister, Mae Allen of Hesperia and Gloria Way of Bitley; and brother, Marvin Thompson of Muskegon. Surviving are his wife, Vonnie; brother, Raymond (Lori) Thoompson of Hesperia; son, George (Jennie) Thompson of Saginaw; daughter, Debra (Larry) Clark of Hesperia and Kathy (Paul) Harris of Riverdale; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th at Volney Bible Church, 8003 Dickinson Ave
Bitely with a visitation one hour prior to the service and Reverend Kaye Ferguson-Patton officiating. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Michigan.
