Kathleen E. Nowak, age 77, went home to her Lord peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, January 14, 2017. The daughter of Alonzo J. & Freida (Higgins) Schullo, she was born on December 10, 1939 in Grand Rapids. 

For 20 years Kathleen lived in Canadian Lakes where she enjoyed meeting many wonderful friends. She attended for the past 20 years St. Michael’s Parish in Remus, where she was very active with the Church’s Youth Breakfast and read to elementary students at St. Mike’s School.  She was also an avid golfer where she accomplished two holes in one.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, quilting, and playing many games with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Edward A. Schullo. She will leave behind the loves of her life husband, John R. (Jack) Nowak; two daughters, Colleen (Richard) Herman and Michelle (David) Buikema; five loving and devoted grandchildren Mallorie, Megan & McKenzie Herman and Logan & Savannah Buikema; two brothers,  Patrick J. (Eileen) Schullo, and Alonzo J. (Martha) Schullo; two sisters, Rosalyn Joyce Sydnor and Marquerite (Gerald) Andrews; aunt, Jeannette Dempsey; sister in-law, Patricia (Edward) Schullo; along with many special nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Holy Spirit Parish, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. N.W. with visitation one hour prior to the service and a luncheon to follow.

Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.

    So sorry to hear about Kathy’s passing. Take comfort in the fact that she knew how much you loved her, and you will be together again someday.

    Dear Kathy: We love you dearly and you will always be in our hearts our little darling Punky. You will be missed by all. We will all be together some day. Because of our health concerns, we are unable to attend your service. Our sincere sentiments go out to your loving husband Jack, the girls and their families.

    Whenever I saw Kathy’s name on my schedule, I knew I had a reason to smile. She will be missed by many.

    Michelle so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. Thinking of you and your family as well as Colleens at this very sad and difficult time. Your mom was such a cool lady and I am so happy to have known her.
