Mrs. Karen Field, age 90, of Lansing, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009. She was born March 20, 1919, in Ishpeming, the daughter of Hilja and Werner Besonen. Karen raised her three daughters in Mason, and retired from the Ingham County Sheriff’s Dept. She was a member of the Mason First United Methodist Church and enjoyed working with the children in the nursery. Once she retired, Karen loved spending time with her grandkids.

Through the years, Karen loved music, dancing, traveling and playing cards and was always ready to go for a good time with family and friends. She was known for her positive and determined spirit and good health.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Bonnie Beery. Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Saites of Potterville, Mary (Mike) Montie of Ionia; son-in-law, John Beery; grandchildren, Christopher and Holly Saites, Christie (Bob) VanderVliet, Carrie Saites; brother, John (Donna) Salmela; niece and god-child, Vikki Logrbrinck; nephew, Brian (Sue) Salmela; and great-niece, Hailee Salmela.

A visitation and memorial service will be held at 4:30 Monday, August 24, 2009, at the Grand Ledge Opera House Terrace Level. Visitation: 2:00 – 4:00 followed by the memorial service.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire staff at Tendercare West for the loving way they cared for our mom. They really do treat everyone like family. Memorial contributions may be made to Potterville United Methodist Church or Eaton County Hospice.
