Joseph Frank Gilewski, Jr., age 62, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2016, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe was known as a “project man” always working on a new improvement around the house and especially the yard. There wasn’t a single job that he was afraid to tackle. He enjoyed food (especially dessert), fishing, and relaxing at the lake house. He spent the last half of his career building a successful business as a Fed-Ex contractor. He owed a great deal of his success to his two loyal employees and friends, Scott and Kathleen.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Frances Gilewski; and his sister and brother-in-law, Joan & Jim Reeves. Surviving are wife, Marie (Kay) Gilewski; daughter, Jeanne Carroll and her husband Kyler; son, Stephen Gilewksi; daughter, Carlene Gilewski; sisters, Donna (Phil) Dimeo, and Sandra (Robert) Muraski; brother, Robert (Suzanne) Gilewski; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Joe’s life from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 1970 Red Hill Drive N.E. (off of N. Catamount Trail N.E.), Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49301. The family looks forward to sharing a meal and memories of Joe.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to “Friends of the White Pine Trails” or “Doctors without Borders”. To send a message of sympathy to the family, sign Joe’s online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please visit: www.MichiganCremation.com
Arrangements were entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.

Special man with “unlimited” talents. Some required a tool bag and others just his time. He was always willing to help others and was a great listener. He will be missed by many! God’s peace to all of his friends and family during this time of loss and celebration of his life…Glenda and Dave
