John A. Andy Gay, age 82, of Orleans, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 5, 2005 at Metron of Belding. The son of Richard & Elizabeth (Blackleddge) Gay, he was born on April 9, 1923 in Marion. On Nov. 7, 1953, in Angola, Indiana, he married the former Ilene J. Horton. John provided for his family by working as a union ironworker for most of his life and was involved in many great construction and civil engineering projects, including the building of the Mackinac Bridge. He was a member of the Ironworkers Local No. 783. He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight sisters and brothers, Beulah Gibbs, Grace Meyers, James Gay, Robert Gay, Nellie Gay, Mary Gay, Stanley Gay, and Paul Gay.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ilene J. Gay of Orleans; their children, Jacqueline & Arthur Brooks of Orleans, Terry Satterlee, Joseph & Deborah Gay, all of Greenville, and John R. Gay of Belding; a sister, Eunice Malek of McBain; a brother, David Gay of Washington; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 from Shiloh Community Church, with burial following at Orleans Township Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Harger, pastor of Shiloh Community Church, will officiate. Visitation is on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, and also on Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. at the church. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home and the church.
