Jerry Wayne Hargrove, age 60, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday evening, December 16, 2008 at home. The son of Samuel Joseph and Lois Aileen (Bauman) Hargrove, he was born on Oct. 17, 1948 in Greenville.

A graduate of Concord High School, Jerry had worked as the executive director of the Community Closet in Stanton until poor health forced his early retirement.

Jerry was an avid sports fan who enjoyed football, as well as science fiction movies, playing cards, and computers but he delighted in spending time with children, especially his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his siblings, Joanne & Jonathan Wright of Cedar Springs, Mary Hargrove, Sue & David Boice, all of Greenville, Harold & Kelly Hargrove of Cassopolis, Sam & Mary Hargrove of Belding, and Linda & James Vaughn of Greenville; a step-brother, Jim & Darlene Davis of Battle Creek; a very special friend, Ellen Wilson and her sons, Nathan, Casey, and Bobby, all of Sheridan; an uncle and aunt, Varian & Liz Bauman of Greenville; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and many, many cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Greenville Community of Christ, 814 E. Coffren Avenue, with a time of food and fellowship following. Honoring Jerrys wishes, cremation has taken place.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Greenville Community of Christ. To send a message of sympathy to the family, sign Jerrys online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please click the “Sign Guest Book” link above.

I remember many years ago, when Jerry first got his driver’s license and they were living on a farm in Albion. We, as his cousins, who were really “just pain in the asses”, loved to tease him. This particular day while my dad was helping to the plow the fields for spring planting, Jerry was driving us kids around the farm in an old farm truck. When he would stop, we would all start chanting, “We want a ride Huey!” (Huey as in Baby Huey, an old cartoon character, our nickname for him.) I will miss his great laugh and loving nature.

To the family: I am so sorry for your loss. Jerry was a good friend to my husband Gary. He spoke often of their “experiences” as Gary would have put it.
