James “Jay” H. Maddox, age 71, of Jenison, passed away on April 8, 2019.
He was born on February 9, 1948, in Grand Rapids, to Harland & Lois (Sorenson) Maddox.
He married Christine DeBoer on October 27, 1978.
After retiring from General Motors, he worked for 15 years at Sunny Slope Floral. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, fishing and camping.
Survived by his wife, Chris Maddox; children, Sarah Maddox and James Maddox; grandson, Jacob Maddox; siblings, Jeannie Bayles, Butch (Marilyn) McGraw, Robert “Bob” (Susan) Maddox, Andy (Cyndee) Maddox, Tom (Ann) Maddox, Sue Owens, Phil (Beth) Maddox and Dede Briggs; many nieces and nephews; in-laws, John (Jan) VanWyke; Roger DeBoer, Karen (Norm) Zondervan and Vicky (Steve) Berkompas.
He is preceded in death by his son, TJ Maddox; sisters, Joann Rittenhouse and Nancy Sorenson; brother, Dougie Maddox; and brother-in-law, Jim Bayles.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday April 19, 2019, at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Ave SE, Grand Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20, at Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, followed by military honors. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at St. George’s Hall, 1513 Quarry Ave NW, Grand Rapids.
