James “Jake” Robinson, age 88, of Grand Rapids, left us on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.  He was born April 20, 1931, in Poplar Grove, Arkansas, to the late Mattie Hooker.

Jake Loved HELPING others!  He proudly served his country for two years in the United States Marine Corps.  Jake worked for 28 years with the United States Postal Service and 7 years with the Grand Rapids Press.  After retirement he went into action with a lot of volunteer work for the American Red Cross, Goodwill Auxiliary, Ronald McDonald House, and for 16 years & 9 months for the Grand Rapids Police Department in the Senior Volunteer Neighborhood Service Program.  When he wasn’t volunteering, Jake enjoyed gardening at home and traveling.

He will be deeply missed by his very special friend, Iretha Smith; his children, grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Michigan Cremation and Funeral Care, 3627 Linden Avenue S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49548, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.  Burial and full military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
